Hi, I am Tracy Elliot
Clinical Psychologist

"When you don’t go within you go without”.
This quote by Eileen Voigt reflects much about my belief system and explains my love of therapy. The necessity to take care of the outer world of career, financial and physical wellness requires little convincing for most people, but to live your best life, I believe this requires that you also attend to the internal world.
More about Tracy
My natural orientation to therapy is around understanding the realm of underlying motives, drives and emotions which are oftentimes linked to our life experiences. Understanding the impact of these experiences starts to give us some choice in how we respond to future experiences, rather than being controlled by processes about which we may not be aware. This process takes understanding, time and courage but delivers sustainable results. I work with adolescents, young and mature adults to facilitate this journey.
My other great passion is relationships. The Grant Study is one of the longest-running longitudinal studies of human thriving. It followed a group of Harvard students and disadvantaged youth for 75 years to discover what contributed most to success and happiness. The number one factor was the strength of their relationships. Our relationships are one of our greatest sources of happiness but they are also one of our greatest causes of distress. I am passionate about working with couples, parents (parents-to-be) and families to facilitate a state of harmonious relatedness. I apply a systemic lens to understanding why people in relationships behave the way they do. Viewed in this way, people in relationships and families are seen as part of an emotional unit. They are interconnected and influence one another, and their struggles cannot be understood in isolation from the system as a whole.
Having applied my skills in a corporate environment I can also guide others along this journey and provide a more directive approach where required. I understand organisations, their structures, hierarchies and challenges and can work at this level when the outer world requires attending to.
I graduated in 2000 with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology (cum laude). My journey has been towards the relentless creation of a life worth living. I look forward to partnering with you on this path.
