8 Week Mindfulness Workshop

Learn the skills to help you live your life with purpose, meaning and connection.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the ability to consciously pay attention to yourself, others and the world in the present moment without judgement.

Why is this relevant?

Neuroscientists have concluded that nearly 95% percent of our actions, thoughts and behaviours are unconscious. This means that for the most part we are functioning on autopilot. This often leaves us feeling helpless or out of control. The emotional problems people face such as anxiety and depression are directly connected to feeling helpless and stuck. Be it fears of the future or regrets of the past – these are thought cycles that we cannot change, and often we don’t even know they are happening.

Mindfulness teaches you how to stop and control these thought cycles. To be alive in your here and now and learn how to find joy in everyday experiences.

Who is Mindfulness for?

Mindfulness is for everyone. It is helpful for people who struggle with mental health problems and for people who are searching for a way to feel more satisfied and connected with life and other people.

Where does it come from?

The concept of Mindfulness originated over 2500 years ago in Asia from the Buddist culture. Over time it has been adapted, researched and tested and is now in form we use today. Mindfulness is not religion based and can be used by anyone from any background. The goal of mindfulness is self awareness and connection and thus does not base itself on any doctrine.

What has the research shown?

Through the use of Mindfulness people have experienced:

  • Reduction in depression and anxiety

  • Greater well-being & life satisfaction

  • Higher self confidence

  • Acceptance of emotions

  • Decrease in moodiness

  • Increased emotional intelligence which leads to better relationships & communication

How does it work?

The mindfulness workshops run for 8 weeks, once a week for 2 hours. Sessions are run by a registered psychologist and are limited to 8 people. During the workshop you will be provided with tools that you can use everyday. As with everything in life – practice makes perfect. In order to gain the full benefit from the programme you need to commit to a lifestyle change.

The workshop spans 8 weeks, in order to allow time to practice the skills provided. The workshop can be utilised in conjunction with psychotherapy. Skills learnt can be applied, tested and discussed with your therapist. This is not a psychotherapy group- it is a skills based workshop with the goal to educate and empower.

How much does it cost?

R 4000 for 8 weeks and can be claimed through your medical aid.
