I have always had a passion for and interest in understanding and helping people. I’ve always been curious as to why people do what they do and how people overcome adversities in their lives. What makes people different and what makes them similar. What I value the most about this profession is that you never stop learning and I believe I learn from my clients just as much as they may learn from me.

More about Jene

I obtained my Masters degree in Clinical Psychology at North West University. During my internship year at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital I received training and experience in assessment, diagnosing and treatment of severe psychopathology in children, adolescents and adults as well as family therapy. I completed my community service at Johannesburg Prison which added to my knowledge and experience of conducting psychotherapy and assessment within a forensic setting.  Prior to completing my Masters in Clinical Psychology, I obtained a degree in Social Work in 2013. Having worked as a Social Worker for 4 years I gained experience in conducting individual therapy, family therapy, couples therapy and group work with adolescents as well as adults, primarily within addiction and psychiatric settings. Additionally, in 2014 I completed an internship programme at North West University’s student counselling centre where I mainly worked with students as a registered counsellor.

My approach to therapy is very individualised. I believe that each client and each therapeutic process is different. We can be going through the exact same thing but experience it in very different ways. Therefore, I work from an integrative approach, borrowing techniques from different modalities to suit the client’s unique needs and expectations.

For me, therapy is not only one thing but many different things. I believe that therapy is a sacred space. A space that holds both pain and growth. A learning space, a teaching space. A space where we get to better understand ourselves and a space of freedom. Freedom to experience, express and explore the most vulnerable parts of ourselves free of judgement and instruction. A space that, at times can be challenging but brings with it an opportunity for change. In a world filled with expectations and demands, this is a space of acceptance, where being yourself, just as you are, is good enough. I may not be able to walk this journey for you but I will be right beside you every step of the way while we figure it out.
